    Surviving Winter

    Survivingwinter

Might have been one of the bravest or craziest things I’ve done in a while. Yes, it really might have been. However, if you were freezing your booty off, you would do it to… I’m sure of it… Yup. Three fabulous weeks with my parents… Haven’t spent that much time with them since college Christmas break. But whatever… Right… Now, I was the mom and I got to make the rules in my house, but I was in their house… It was interesting…

Always an adventure, we woke up to snowy weather the day we were supposed to leave. The weatherman predicted 3-6 inches of snow. In reality, it was 13 inches. The most snow Philly received since 1885. A record! The house was blanketed in the stuff. Flights were cancelled, however, our flight at 5:45pm had not been cancelled. I was feeling optimistic that we would get off without an issue; however, I’m a realist and when the news started saying how bad the weather was and announced to stay off the roads. I changed our flight to the next day!

Usually staying somewhere more then 3 nights gets old and stinky, like old milk in the refrigerator. But with family, there is no time limit unless it’s with the in- laws. You could stay as long as you would like, and I maybe the only one on earth that stays for 3 weeks. However, I had a plan… Stay busy; get out of the house, plan activities and weekend trips! Little dude & I would leave Wednesday or Thursday through Sunday or Monday for 2 of the weeks to go visit friends. And daddy met up with us for one of the weekends. So in actuality it was only 11 days.

My parents used to be smokers, smoking a pack a day! Literary, 3 days before we arrived they decided to quit. Or should I say, they switched to using those battery cigarettes.

Well, my parent’s never picked up a “real cigarette”. And I didn’t get committed. We all survived, even with a busy 3- year- old bouncing around, keeping us all on our toes. I would say the retired life isn’t that bad!
