Start Saving for College

This Start Saving for College, post is sponsored by the Florida Prepaid College Board, through my role as a Believer Blogger. All thoughts are my own.

Fall is one of my favorite seasons of the year, the hot and humid days of summer slowly become the cool crisp air mornings of Fall. I enjoy the colors and smells of fall, such as cinnamon, apples, and of course pumpkins. For me, noting truly signals fall like the start of college football. College football always gets me thinking that it is never too early to start saving for college.

It is definitely never too early to start saving for your child’s education. In fact, I wish that my parents had decided to take the same initiative for me when I was thinking about going. It definitely would have lifted a lot of stress-related weight off our shoulders. We want our children to know that attending college definitely is an option for them and that they shouldn’t look for alternative routes in life because they’re worried about how much it will cost. That is not their responsibility to think about, that’s for us to work out.

Hubs and I both went to college, and when Little Dude was born, we always knew we wanted him to follow in our footsteps. We don’t want to go into debt just to put him through college, and we don’t want him to have to take out a ton of student loans.

  1. I have family members who live in Florida with kids nearing the college age. I bet they don’t know about the Florida Prepaid College Program, so I’m going to fill them in on it.

  2. I never realized until I started college just how crucial it is to have a fund and some savings. It’s crucial and a HUGE help – you don’t realize it at first, but when the time comes you’re glad you have it – type of thing!

  3. What a truly helpful program to get the saving started for college. We have 3 that have graduated or are in the process of finishing college and 3 more behind them…every cent helps.

  4. Starting to save for college is a great thing to do. Unfortunately, many of us cannot save and put money into a savings plan. But, I believe this is great for parents who can. I have a child in college now and it’s not easy.

  5. This sounds like a great way to save for college. We started saving as soon as our Son was born. School is so expensive it is important to be prepared.

  7. Right now I’m trying to get through great school and high school. My kiddos go to a private school so I have to say for that. I am trying to save for college to but it does become difficult. I wish my state had something like this. It would really help.

  8. It is so important to start planning for college early. We have twins and thank goodness we sought out college planning and scholarship opps early. We also let our kids take college courses while in high school so they could knock out some of those basic courses at no cost to us.
