Remembering September 11

,

Remembering Septemer 11, 2001

This past summer while I was visiting New York City I had an opportunity to visit the September 11 Memorial. It’s a place I avoided, sadly because of the memories. The memories of being there prior to 911 as the number of times child with my parents. Then as an adult.

The memories of meeting friends and family in Downtown NYC. Memories of taking the train into the bottom of the World Trade Center and then walking to my cousin’s apartment on Gold Street.

As I walked through the September 11 Memorial, I felt heavy hearted and teary-eyed, remembering where I was September 11, 2001. I will never forget the frantic call I received from my father begging me to stay home and not go anywhere. I remember repeatedly calling my mother and not hearing from her for hours and hours because she was stuck on the George Washington Bridge. I remember my father calling me with updates about family members and friends who worked in the towers. I stayed glued to the television hundreds of miles away in Florida, watching news reports and feeling helpless. It is a day I will never forget.

September 11 affected us all in some way, through our family and friends. Remember September 11, 2001, and the innocent people who went to work in the towers to have their lives change in an instant. Remember the people that boarded those flights on September 11, “Let’s Roll”. Remember the first responders who ran into the burning towers risking and losing their lives to save strangers. Remember our service men & women whose job is to protect our us and our country. Remember all those families that have lost a loved one. Remember the all the people who became heroes and angels that day.

Today, September 11, 2015. Take some time and remember that tragic day, September 11, 2001. And tell your family how much you love them and kiss your babies.

Always Remember!

I remember making phone calls and checking in with everyone. My sister was in the sky over the Ohio area, I think. I know her plan ended up landing somewhere around there, and she had to rent a car to get home.

It is very sobering to be there. I find it interesting that I posted my picture of this view on my blog yesterday. Even after all this time, remembering this day is scary. And hard. God bless the victims and their families!

Wonderful sentiments. Never forget! 9/21/01 was my 21st birthday. Not exactly how I imagined that day in my head. 🙁
