When Little Dude was about 2- years- old we decided to adopt the Elf tradition. It has been the highlight of our mornings every year since, from Thanksgiving through Christmas. Little Dude wakes up each morning and frantically searches for his Elf, Phoenix. Once he finds him, he comes and get me. He grabs my hand, makes me close my eyes, and carefully walks me over to see where his Elf is hiding.  Sharing in his excitement, I of course oblige.

Now that Little Dude is 5- years- old, I feel that just sitting our Elf in something or perching him on top of something isn’t going to cut it. I’ve felt more and more like I needed to be more creative and step up my Elf hiding game and having the Elf toilet papering the tree wasn’t going to cut it. Besides it’s way too fun coming up with Elf hiding ideas. Little Dude’s surprise reactions are priceless and I know that one day I will be begging for this time back.

The past few months have been crazy for us and if you’ve been following along on our adventures you know that we moved from Philly to FL. Our new neighborhood is pretty awesome and close to the beach. However, one of Little Dude’s favorite things about our new neighborhood is that it has a water park and a Zip Line! It only seemed fitting that our Elf, Pheonix too,  zip line through our new house.

Cut off the top flaps of the box.

Cut along two of the long edges to make the Elf’s seat. Be careful not to cut the long edge that has the glued seam. Tape the seam at the bottom of the box if it comes un-glued while cutting. Cut off 2 inches from the top of the box.

Poke two holes in both ends of the box with a hole punch for the Elf’s seat belt.

Measure and cut about 16 inches of fishing line. Thread through the two holes on the box.

Poke a hole in the straw and thread fishing line through it to tie the handle to the Elf.

Measure the wall/ ceiling for where the zip line, line will go for the Elf to zip across. Cut the line out of fishing line.

Attach one side of the fishing line to the wall/ ceiling using contact strips.

Thread the other end of the line through the straw.

Then attach the other end of fishing line to the wall, pull it tight, with the Elf attached. Use a contact strip to secure it in place.

Elf is now ready to take a zip!
